Revlon Colourburst Matte Balm: Elusive

So I've totally gone and copied Ruby, and acquired one of these famous matte balms in Elusive because she looked so darn good wearing it! Of course, I don't actually have a camera and have to make do with my shit webcam and crappy lighting, and I hope you don't mind a few shameless selfies because that's essentially what this post will be.

Lol, hi. I don't know how good a representation these photos are because the colour isn't quite so purple-tinted in real life. I'm also not sure I'm a huge fan of the actual matte finish but that can always be fixed by slapping a bit of Vaseline on top so I'm not too worried! Overall, I'd say I do like this product but I probably won't be rushing out to buy it again. If you love a matte-finish and are a fan of punchy colours, then this is definitely for you. If not, stick to the original Colourburst balms which have a bit more of a shiny finish. (Is "shiny" even the right term?)

Hope you're all luvin lyf!

Crushin head Ovard heels

I know today is a Sunday so this hardly qualifies as a #WomanCrushWednesday post but I'm feeling a huge rush of love for Aspyn Ovard right now so I feel that it's pretty appropriate to write about it at this very moment. Aspyn is the creator of Haute Brilliance, a beauty/fashion/lifestyle YouTube channel. I'd like to clarify that I'm not an obsessive YouTube fangirl who has a sad life filled with vloggers that she feels are actually her friends, but I also know that I'm probably going to have to work pretty hard to convince you of that one!

Source

Essentially, Aspyn's life is flawless. I know it's not healthy to put people on a pedestal like this and it might suggest an inferiority complex, bla bla, I know. I know this is pretty pathetic, trust me, but I just want to be her. I am happy with my life - so happy - but I'd be even more ecstatic with hers. I know she only portrays the best parts of her life, I really do get that, but she does a pretty great job of showcasing her happiness. Watching Aspyn's videos does sometimes make me feel a little unaccomplished, given that we're the same age, born just two days apart, but I also think it's so nice to see someone who is a genuinely lovely person succeed.

I think she's from Utah (or somewhere desert-y like that!) so, while it's probably really hot, it's also a place with beautiful scenery. She goes on long drives with her friends past "mountains" (they look more like hills to me) and is a cheerleader for her school's sports teams. Her house is fabulous and she has a seemingly endless supply of money. (She decided to go to New York City on a whim with her boyfriend and just ended up at IMATS.) Okay, sometimes she talks way too fast and maybe her voice gets a little annoying at times, but I just find her so endearing. You just want to love her.

I hope this isn't sounding way too crushy (although that would merely be revealing my true feelings!) and I hope you go and watch a couple of her videos, and enjoy them as much as I do. She's basically a younger, American Zoella - perfect human beings, and all. I'm not sure if this little girl crush stems from my love for Aspyn Ovard, or for the life she shows us all, but I know that I like what she does and how she approaches life, and that seems like a good enough reason to me.

The TMI Tag

Hello! I've seen the TMI tag kicking around a bit lately and, while I'm not a YouTuber, I thought this would be fun to do as a blog post. Let's ignore the fact that I haven't actually been tagged and get crackalackin.

1. What are you wearing?

Considering that this is the TMI tag, I should probably list everything, right? A hoody, chavtastic tracksuit bottoms, tshirt, bra, underwear, socks, earrings, and a necklace.

2. Ever been in love?

No, but I'm only young!

3. Ever had a terrible breakup?

I've never had a serious relationship, so no.

4: How tall are you?

170cm, which I believe is something like 5 feet and 7 inches. Correct me if I'm wrong!

5. How much do you weigh?

Lol, more than I should. I'm about three quarters of the way up the healthy bar on the BMI test.

6. Any tattoos?

No sir. And probably never; I'm too fickle to settle on one thing forever.

7. Any piercings?

Four, one on my left ear and three on my right ear.

8. OTP?

Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield together are perfection!

9. Favourite show?

Probably Strictly Come Dancing, though I do love a bit of the Kardashians.

10. Favourite bands?

Haim, The Naked and Famous, and London Grammar, perhaps?

11. Something you miss? .

Having absolutely zero pressure to do well at school. Hello year nine.

12. Favourite song?

Stay The Night by Zedd with a bit of good old Hayley Williams.

13. How old are you?

I turned eighteen nine days ago, so I'm a real adult now!

15. Quality you look for in a partner?

A fab sense of humour and similar interests to me, I suppose.

16. Favourite quote?

"Happiness is a choice".

17. Favourite actor?

Andrew Garfield, maybe?

18. Favourite colour?

Orange.

19. Loud music or soft?

A bit of both. Loud might just pip soft, though.

20. Where do you go when you’re sad?

I haven't been sad in a long time. My bedroom, maybe.

21: How long does it take you to shower?

Seven minutes, I think. I like to get back into bed after my shower so I don't mess around for long!

22. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?

About twenty minutes - if I don't know what I'm wearing, that is. If I do, fifteen is more likely!

23. Ever been in a physical fight?

Sort of. I was twelve and a girl jumped on me in a warm up in a PE lesson (she was a bully, she picked on everyone) and pushed me on the floor so I shoved her off and hit her when she hit me back. I don't know if that counts!

24. Turn on?

If they genuinely care about other people.

25. Turn off?

When they're really arrogant and think a lot of themselves.

26. The reason I started blogging?

I read Sarra Manning's Adorkable and basically decided Jeane Smith was my role model.

How To Be A Heroine, by Samantha Ellis.

33. Last show you watched?

50. Who should answer these questions next?

Anyone who wants to, I really cannot be arsed to tag anyone.

I hope you've enjoyed reading these answers, not that any of them were TMI, really, were they? Feel free to have a go at this yourself and have wonderful weekends, all of you.

Charity shop bargains

My family and I drove to a nice restaurant on my birthday in the evening and once we'd finished eating, we walked back down the highstreet to our car. On the highstreet, we passed a British Heart Foundation charity shop and my mum spotted some gorgeous shoes in the window. The angle they were at meant that I couldn't see what size they were, or how much they were, but I knew that I needed them! I also didn't have a clue what time the shop opened the next day but I thought 10am was a good guess, so I dragged my brother into town the next day (with the promise of a McDonald's breakfast!).

And - hallelujah, praise the Lord and Baby Jesus - the shoes were still there when we arrived (!!!!). Even more hallelujah-y was that they were a size 5 (that's my size!) and fit me perfectly. They were also only £9.99 which is a bloody fantastic bargain. They were a fabulous post-birthday present to myself but I've not had the chance to wear them outside yet. I've just been parading round the house in them and feeling overjoyed with them. Shout out to Mama Green who spotted these beauties!

Just look at them! I think I've fallen a little bit in love with them. I am, in fact, wearing them right now. It's just reinforced my love for charity shops and has made me want to look in them a lot more. Am I looking a bit too pleased with myself in those photos? I hope it's not too smug a face.

Hope you're all well and luvin lyf! xo

Entering adulthood, take 2

My closest friends came over on Tuesday night to celebrate my birthday in true seven-year-old-fashion; I pitched our huge tent in my garden and we all piled in for the night. With eleven of us in an eight-man tent, it was a bit of a squeeze but we managed! We ate a lot of food (namely pizza!) and stayed up til the small hours, gossiping our time away. It was a pretty rad night, really.

(Spot my chavtastic ponytail!)

Having them all over also meant that I received some more presents and so have another birthday present "haul" post to share with you! I'll just get crackalackin because pictures are always more exciting than text.

My friend who works in a florist brought with her a single rose for me which I stupidly forgot to take a photo of on the day. This is the rose in its current wilted state!

Three pairs of shoes, all from New Look. The first two are espadrilles, one a floral print, and the other a white crochet pair. The third is a pair of fluorescent pink jelly sandals which are a bit of a statement but which I'm excited to wear!

A blush (left) and a bronzer (right), which are incidentally both named Coral. The blush, however, is a Sleek one, while the bronzer is from The Body Shop.

A felt tip liquid eyeliner by Collection, and a nail polish from Barry M's Gelly range in Papaya.

Gorgeous disc style earrings from Camden Lock, and cute silver heart stud earrings and a turquoise pendant, both from Accessorize.

Summer Heights High and We Can Be Heroes box set! I am so in love with Chris Lilley. I'm also so excited to read Cloud Atlas as I've heard such great things about it.

I have no idea what this is actually called but it's from Lush and you're meant to rub it on damp skin which acts as an alternative to moisturising. I saw Tanya Burr raving about it and, like the sheep I am, I wanted to try it out too. It smells divine!

A really cute but extravagant cushion cover which I've managed to shove a cushion inside of (it was a tight squeeze).

A bangin elephant print bed-spread-sheet-blanket-type item. I absolutely loved the colour and when I saw it in the Lock with my friend, I nearly wet myself with happiness when he offered to buy it for me.

A supercute floral tshirt which I've already worn out and am considering buying in another colour!

Would a birthday be complete without chocolate? I don't think so. There was a little bit more than this but I've been pretty peckish and... now it's gone!

I hope you've enjoyed my incessant birthday posts and that you're having a fabulous day! xo

Spring has sprung

2014 Blogger Challenge - post 8

Happy spring! I feel that spring is fully in swing now. I'm also in a very rhyme-y mood, apparently! I've got some really cute bits and pieces over the past couple of days which I feel are very spring/summer appropriate, and which are great contributions to the SS14 wardrobe of Kate Green. I've got one of my favourite springy outfits on today so I decided to have a little webcam photo shoot for Gaby's latest challenge - a spring inspired OOTD post.

My friend bought me this really cute tshirt from New Look for my birthday which I love because it's so casual and understated, but which makes me feel quite girly too. It's cropped but because of my, um, lack of sit ups, I don't wear cropped tops often and, when I do, I tuck it into something. That's exactly what I did today and it was one of those days where I just felt so comfortable and confident with my outfit choice that it set me up with a good mood for the rest of the day. I hope that doesn't sound ridiculously cocky or anything, but I'm basically selling this tshirt to you. They also do it in white, I think.

And what spring outfit would be complete without a pair of espadrilles? These are also from New Look, and I have a white crochet pair which I sadly couldn't find to take a photo of. New Look have a bangin range of espadrilles out right now so definitely go and take a look. They're so comfortable and easy to wear, but also so bloomin cute

I hope you've enjoyed this short but sweet OOTD post and be sure to check out everybody else's outfits over at Gaby's blog.

Entering adulthood

Guess who's just turned eighteen!

That's right, me! Can you tell I'm a tad excited about it? I've left my childhood behind and am now embracing being a proper adult. I can watch 18 rated films at the cinema, I can buy alcohol, I can get married without my parents' permission, and I can do all things a fully-fledged adult can do. My uncle (a Moonpig.com addict) thought it would be funny to get me this card though:

(Are my theatrical faces getting a bit much?) Aforementioned fabulous uncle is paying for a lot of my Latitude Festival ticket for my birthday which is really lovely of him, so I suppose I can forgive him for this sassy card.

I had a wonderful birthday yesterday and what's a blog for if you don't use it to post photos of your beautiful presents? Disclaimer: in no way am I showing off or bragging or attempting to make myself look rich or more privileged than anyone, bla bla bla, we all know how that one goes. I love looking at other people's "haul" - so to speak - posts so I hope you enjoy this one!

These bits and pieces are from my family and my best friend; I have ten friends coming over tomorrow night so perhaps there'll be another present or two then! (Fingas crssd).

A super cute teapot for when I make green tea with tea leaves as opposed using to tea bags.

Melon liqueur while I am so excited to try. I'm not sure whether to have it neat or mix it... but what should I mix it with?! Help!

A very excited face and some TopShop and Next vouchers (new clothes yo).

A world map print duvet cover which is definitely coming to uni with me.

A book about the theory of heroines in novels: in the blurb it slates Katy from What Katy Did and calls her a "drip" which I 100% agree with so I can't wait to read this.

A beautiful letter and mix CD from my very bestest friend. The photo cut two songs off the end: Supernova by Mr Hudson, and He Is We's All About Us. I've already imported it onto my iTunes.

My "main" (if you will) present, however, was this gorgeous opal and gold ring which I picked out with my mum a couple of weeks ago from a little antiques jewellery store in Brighton. The webcam photo isn't really doing the opal justice because there are so many beautiful rainbow colours in there. I've always loved opals and I'm beyond happy that I now have my own.

I realise that I'm lucky to have such amazing family and friends who have given me such a wonderful birthday and who have been so generous. Lots of love to them all and big shout out to Papa Green who made me the most bangin birthday cake in the world:

PS: this is Papa Green nearly eighteen years ago, with a three day old baby me (my nostrils still haven't grown)

I hope you're all well and are having a great day! I'll leave you with this treat:

Peachy nails

I usually don't have my nails painted as I work every weekend (where they don't allow nail varnish!) and I don't feel there's much point in having my nails done for just five days and then having to take it all off on a Friday night. This weekend, however, I'm not working as it's my buuurfday, so I decided to make the most of being allowed painted nails. I wanted a spring-inspired nail colour and thought that my Bourjois polish in Apricot would be a good choice. What I will say though is that Bourjois nail varnishes are crap. They stay on for about a day - that's with two topcoats on too - before peeling right off. Don't waste your money on them, I'm telling you now!

A couple of years ago, I got one of the No.7 "Stay Perfect" polishes in a shimmery-glittery pale pink colour so I decided to put that over the Apricot colour in the hopes of getting it to last longer (which failed) but also to give it a nicer finish. The "Stay Perfect" range is so great. It really does stay perfect and I love the subtle colours they come in. Sadly, the one I have doesn't have a name on it, but I've done a bit of hunting online and I think they've discontinued it.

(Love the webcam quality, yo)

Quick shout to anyone who's reading this; are Essie polishes worth the money? I don't actually own any but I'm thinking of getting some. Any colour recommendations?

I need to dig a little deeper

I haven't really done a lets-catch-up-with-my-life post in a while, so here's one now. I was feeling great until about ten minutes ago when I saw a photo on Facebook of a guy I'm kindofquiteclosetoandsortofhadathingwithandmaybestillike with another girl, and someone commented with a little hashtag merging their names together. Cute. Not. I know I have no right to even mind because it's not like he's solely mine or whatever, but I do still care. It's funny how something little like that can totally flip your mood.

Anyway, this isn't going to be a woe-is-me post because I ain't got no time to let boyz bring me down. I was on The Student Room on Friday in the University of Chester's forum thingy, and someone made a thread about English Language. So I clicked on it and got chatting to a couple of people who I'll (fingers crossed!) be in lectures with come September. It turned out that one guy I was talking to actually lives just a couple of miles away from me and that we have four mutual Facebook friends. Massive coincidence. We got on pretty well just chit chatting away so we decided to meet yesterday for coffee and more general chit chat.

For me, it was a bit weird because today is actually exactly one year since I met Internet Boy, so it was kind of strange that it was all being echoed fifty two weeks later. With Internet Boy, there were no awkward silences, nothing to indicate that we hardly knew each other. With Student Room boy, however, there were. It turns out he's not really much of a talker, but he is really sweet and is a pretty nice guy. It will be really nice to have someone I know at Chester in September so it's all worked out pretty well.

On Friday, it's my Grandad's funeral. He died on 22nd March in hospital of pneumonia. It's going to be my second ever funeral (my first only being three weeks ago) and it's going to be a really formal funeral. Funeral cars, three services, hundreds of guests, a black tie occasion. I'm a bit nervous, and a bit worried that I might have a little breakdown in front of everyone. I mean, everyone's going to be sad, but it's not worse for anyone that it is for my Grandma. They were married for fifty four years and she's never spent more than something like fifteen nights in her life alone in a bed.

Wow, this post did get pretty depressing pretty quickly! I still haven't done any revision this whole week, but it's my birthday on Sunday, I'm going out to da clubs for the first time on Monday, and my friends are coming for a sleepover in a tent on Tuesday, so there's things to look forward to. I hope you're all well and having a great Easter break! xo
