HELP (please!)

Hey guys, I need a spot of advice. I've just received my AS results and as they're not absolutely abysmal, I don't mind sharing. Especially as I need some help. If you're not from the UK, I'll fill you in: we take four subjects for one year, and after we receive our results from all the exams we took in those subjects, we (usually, unless you're mega brainy) drop a subject and just continue with three for the second year. I took English literature, English language, geography and history. I thought I'd come out with ACCC today but actually got BBBC which is a kind of nice surprise. Does it sounds really bratty to be a bit pissed off about not getting an A in English language? Maybe a bit.

Anyway, the C was for geography but it's a subject I love. I'm also really passionate about English language too so I don't want to drop that. I'm kind of eh at English lit and history and don't really like either of them. My problem is that I didn't do as well in geography, so I'm not sure which subjects I should continue with and which I should scrap forever. I hope this post is making sense to you because it hardly makes sense to me.

Essentially, do you think I should get rid of history, geography, or English lit? I'm pretty rubbish at all of them, if that helps matters. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you thank you thank you!

  1. I think I'm kinda in the same position as you, I got BBCC, but I was expecting an A in French ( I got a C. Ugh) I'm continuing the two I got Bs in (English lit and psychology) and dropping Biology because despite doing crappily in French, it's the one I can tolerate the most. I guess that for me I know that doing the subjects I enjoy the most is best (even if it means I don't get as high grades) because I can actually be bothered to turn up to lessons and do the work. If I were you I'd carry on geography and English if you like them the most, an then for your final choice choose the one you think will get you the highest grade. But that's just my opinion. Hope it helps <3

  2. Hey Kate! Congratulations on your results!
I would completely agree with Rosie, drop the subject that you least enjoy. If you enjoy geography then carry it on! B's and C's are really good, especially in AS/A levels because they're so hard. And if you really are unhappy with a lower result than you expected you can always resit it. My parents have always encouraged me to do the thing that makes me want to get up in the morning. If you know that carrying on a particular subject is going to make you miserable then why bother doing it? Similarly, if there's a subject you really enjoy and that would make your day significantly better then carry it on and just reeeally push yourself and strive through it. You're more likely to work harder towards your goals if you enjoy what you're doing.
Help that helps a smidge :)
(Now go have a celebratory doughnut or something, I mean we made it through our first year of college!! ;) ) xxx
