ASDA underwear!

Hey guys! All having worked, you'll be reading this while I'm on holiday in Germany and we can all celebrate the fact that this is my first ever scheduled blog post. I've always been a bit picky about my underwear, whether it's bras or knickers, and I've only ever had things from Marks and Spencers because the quality is so good. But on an aforementioned shopping trip with Mama Green, we ventured into... ASDA!

The clothing section is by the entrance so we decided to take a quick whizz through it and see what caught our fancy. Two things caught my fancy actually. Two bras. The material on them is so gorgeous and, in my opinion, a billion times prettier than the range M&S has out right now. I bought two and, let me tell you, it was difficult to choose between all the lovely patterns but I decided on these:

I think the first one is my favourite and it also fits a little better but I absolutely love them both. I hope this post isn't, like, inappropriate or anything but you know, we all wear bras so maybe you'll appreciated the heads up on ASDA's fab collection of them! Happy underwear shopping.

Would you like to supersize that order?

Just a quick post to say I've got my McDonald's uniform and am beyond happy about it. If you're a McDonald's regular, you'll realise from the shirt I am a member of the lobby staff, picking up left behind rubbish and giving out balloons. Tremendous fun.

I'm off to Germany tomorrow but I'll see if I can schedule a post to publish during the time I'm away with no internet access. I'm going for a week and hope to get as tanned as possible in this time. Have a fab week, all! xo

Lace backed tops

Today I went shopping with my mum because we hadn't been together in a while and I was in need of some new tops. (My acid wash tee from Primark was washed with the dark clothes and is now a disgusting grey-pink colour. It appears I have a new pyjama top now.) I've always quite liked TK Maxx and now I've decided I love it. They had some gorgeous clothes out today so I came away with two new blousey-tshirty things.

This first top is actually a pale pink although it comes up as more of a white colour on camera. The back is lacy but surprisingly not that see through which is a good thing. I just really like the fit of the top and find it quite flattering. I'll probably wear it most with the pink floral skirt I mentioned a couple of weeks ago.

The front of this one reminds me of a swimming pool with sun shining on the water, I think it's a really summery fabric. The back of it is again lace but this time, about 99% transparent. You can even see my mole on my back through it. I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do about that; probably just invest in a much needed nude bra because I don't think I like the idea of something being that see through - even if it is only the back. I'll also have to find a new skirt to wear it with because the denim doesn't look too fab.

I hope you're all having a great summer!

Would you like fries with that?

Yesterday at about 4pm, I applied for a job at McDonald's. I've applied there before but I got rejected by email the next day. This time, however, I received an message titled "Great News Kate!" about four hours later and was informed I had an interview there for 3.20pm the next day. As in for 20 hours' time. As in today. So I got dressed in a smart outfit today and hopped on the bus to take me there.

I was told in the email I'd have a 15 minutes "on job evaluation" where I would serve real customers real food in a real life situation, followed by a 15 minute interview with the business manager. In actuality, I arrived and had a two minute meeting with the assistant shift manager. He just asked what I thought the job involved and if I would be willing to work until midnight. I said yep and he said okay great, we'll send you an email and get you put on the staffing system, bye. So, yay. I think I'm about to become a McDonald's employee. The uniform is mega cute too, bonus!

I'm off to the cinema now to see the guy who I may or may not have something with. I have no idea really but it's Kick Ass 2 which looks amazing. I'll leave you with my favourite summer song now, Dreaming by Smallpools.

My first cake!

To be truthful, I don't think I've ever baked a proper sized cake and iced it and served it all by myself. Like, someone else will have made the icing, or it was cupcakes and I don't really count them. But I had six friends come over yesterday to camp out in a twelve-man tent in our garden and cake seems to be a pretty good food to serve for it. I decided to take photos of the baking process to document it because, let's be honest, it's a pretty monumental occasion.

(Please, let's ignore the cling film in the last shot; I was far too lazy to remove it for a photo)

As you can see - hopefully! - it's a chocolate cake and I believe it was a Nigella Lawson recipe. I've never met anyone called Nigella actually, it's a bit of a weird name, isn't it? It's just like Nigel really. Anyway, the icing is just standard buttercream icing with a splash of red food colouring and a drop or two of vanilla extract. And, well, the cherries were just left over in the cupboard, only four of them, so I thought they'd make a nice addition to the, um, masterpiece.

I realise seventeen years old is a bit late to make your first cake without any assistance but I'm not very competent in the kitchen so I'm a little bit proud. Are you a regular baker? Oh, and can anyone do the beautiful looking piping of icing, because I'd love to learn!

Happy Sunday guys.

HELP (please!)

Hey guys, I need a spot of advice. I've just received my AS results and as they're not absolutely abysmal, I don't mind sharing. Especially as I need some help. If you're not from the UK, I'll fill you in: we take four subjects for one year, and after we receive our results from all the exams we took in those subjects, we (usually, unless you're mega brainy) drop a subject and just continue with three for the second year. I took English literature, English language, geography and history. I thought I'd come out with ACCC today but actually got BBBC which is a kind of nice surprise. Does it sounds really bratty to be a bit pissed off about not getting an A in English language? Maybe a bit.

Anyway, the C was for geography but it's a subject I love. I'm also really passionate about English language too so I don't want to drop that. I'm kind of eh at English lit and history and don't really like either of them. My problem is that I didn't do as well in geography, so I'm not sure which subjects I should continue with and which I should scrap forever. I hope this post is making sense to you because it hardly makes sense to me.

Essentially, do you think I should get rid of history, geography, or English lit? I'm pretty rubbish at all of them, if that helps matters. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you thank you thank you!

Mundane Midweek Post #1

I haven't done a great deal lately. My best friend come over on Monday and I hadn't seen her in nineteen days. Maybe that's really lame to say, and I know it's so teen-girl-cliche, but I missed her a lot. We made bacon sandwiches and filmed the 'Best Friend Tag', and attempted to start writing our book. In the whole eight hours she was here for, maybe one and a half was spent actually making progress with it. It was a fab day nevertheless.

Yesterday, I went to someone-who-I've-got-to-know-recently's house. I might write a bit more about it later depending on how things pan out but if there's nothing more about it all within the next couple of months, feel free to assume it's been a bit of a flop. (Have you guessed the someone is a guy?) Today I went to Kensington the Royal Geographical Society to see a photography exhibition on pieces focused on travel. I found it really interesting and was definitely a day well spent. We also picked up lunch at Wagamama (chicken katsu curry, anyone?) and popped up to The Roof Gardens which I think are owned by Richard Branson. It's amazing because they're free and anyone is allowed up there. You can just sit on these sofas hidden in little alcoves in a rooftop garden and it's so peaceful. (I did get into a bit of a tizz when I thought we were stuck in the lift, though, verging on full-blown hysteria, if I'm honest.) I'd definitely recommend checking it out if you're in the Kensington area.

Tomorrow is results day. I don't really want to think about it and I've done quite a good job at forgetting it's happening. If I don't write about my grades on here, it's highly likely I've done badly (which is what I'm expecting, but touch wood it's okay, agh!)

Anyway, if you're getting your results tomorrow, good luck! I'm going to get back to pretending I don't know that in less than 15 hours, I'll know what I got. See you later!

Acid wash tee + floral skirt

Hey! I actually got around to doing this post, praise be. I don't know if it's mega big headed to say it, but I actually love this outfit. Maybe it's just because both pieces are brand new and the novelty of them has yet to wear off, I don't know. I really like how the skirt is kind of dressy but the top is so casual it's bordering on hobo, yet when paired together they just look nice.

I didn't realise until I'd taken these photos quite how see through the tshirt is. Perhaps I'll have to invest in a nude bra because, weirdly, I don't own one. I hope you're all having a fab Sunday and enjoying yourselves.

Internet friend #1, meeting #2

Today I went to meet Jess in Guildford for a shopping trip. I met her on blogspot (as I've said at least six times before) and we'd met previously in February but that was about six months ago so it was high time for yet another shopping trip in Guildford. My train journey there was a bit of a nightmare (fallen trees on train tracks, absence of shuttle buses to Guildford) but I made it an hour late, woohoo, and the shopping commenced. Jess and I happened to buy the same skirt in New Look but it's okay, we don't live near each other or have mutual friends, or even see each other really often, so I like to think it doesn't matter a huge deal. We both obviously just have fab taste in clothing. I plan to do an outfit post on the skirt with a pink tshirt I got from Primark today too, but I won't promise anything because we all know I'm not that reliable.

We also took a trip to Boots and stocked up on Baby Lips due to a 3 for 2 offer which was so great. I bought Peach Kiss, Cherry Me, and Mint Fresh. Can you tell I'm mega excited to finally have these lip balms which are so obviously made by angels?

I might do a review on them at some stage since I've gone on about them for long enough, but again, no promises are being made.

The final photo of today depicts a drink with which I have fallen in love. Move out of the way boys, this is where it's at. It's part of a range of iced teas or just cooled teas by the brand Arizona and I bought the green tea with honey. I'm a sucker for packaging so yes, the fab packaging did draw me in but it also tastes of heaven. Perhaps it's made by the same angels who are responsible for Baby Lips? Who knows. The world works in mysterious ways.

So, I've had an absolutely fantastic day. Thank you Jess for being such a great shopping buddy and it was lovely to see you again! I've had Guessing by Against The Current in my head all day, so I definitely recommend you check them out. Love to aaaall xo

How many secrets can you keep?

Today has been one of the best days I've had in ages. All this week I've been doing voluntary work with the National Citizen Service as an "Associate Mentor" with The Challenge Network. I've been doing it with a girl a met on the training day for it, and a guy who I met last summer and we've had a lot of fun. Today was a twelve hour day which was a bit long but we planned the end-of-week party and I've only just got home from it. I've met some great people and I know it sounds mega cheesy, but I'm never going to forget them. It's been fabulous.

I hope you've all been having a great summer and if you want to chat, my Twitter is kategreen38 and my Tumblr is letscapturethecastle. I love talking to new people from social networking sites, something which is proved by my going to see Jess tomorrow for a great shopping trip. I met her on blogspot. I hope to buy some Baby Lips and perhaps some other bits and pieces and I'll be sure to blog about it. Hope you're all happy!

Happy first birthday, blog!

A year ago today, I wrote my first post on this blog (I was going to link it but I read it back and realised how cringy it is, so I don't think I will). I didn't think I'd keep posting for this long but I'm pretty happy that I have. I realise that my following is ridiculously small for having had this up for 365 days but it's probably one of the best things I've ever done. My writing skills have (I like to think) improved and it's been amazing getting to know other people in the blogosphere. So I don't really want to get all mushy, but a quick shout to you if you're reading this, just to say thank you. It means a lot that people actually read this and I hope I can continue to post my musings here for the foreseeable future. xo

(I was going to bake a cake and take photos of it to post here but I forgot, so here's a picture of a fabulous looking cake that I wish I had the skills to bake. Ah, that's like a tongue twister or a little rhyme.)

The Cornwall Diaries, days 4 - 8

Day 4 - Monday 29th July:

Rose at 8.30am and pottered about the house before heading over to Truro, Cornwall's "capital". Highly disappointed with the lack of eateries and high street chain shops (sorry, residents of Truro!) but River Island had a massive sale so I bought a jacket there. Also bought a "bacon and chicken" pasty for lunch which was actually leek and potato. The heavens opened briefly and we were drenched but decided to drive Trerice, a National Trust property because my parents are massive fans of anything with a National Trust sticker on it. Trerice was fairly small but the main hall was fab. Drove on to Holywell Bay, the second nicest beach in Cornwall. Frolicked in the sand and ate a Nobbly Bobbly before coming home for a dinner of the rarest beef I've ever eaten. Played cards for two hours (it's routine by now) and hopped into bed at about 11pm.

Day 5 - Tuesday 30th July:

Woken by my brother sleep-shouting in our shared bedroom, woo. Piled into the car and popped down to Morrison's to buy ingredients for the chicken divan I made that evening. Spent two hours preparing it before going on a quick stroll with Papa Green. Went to visit my 80 year old gay Great Uncle Jeff and his 70 year old boyfriend, Gordon, for afternoon tea. Gorged myself on Jeff's "famous" Victoria Sponge and shortbread. Came home and ate the fruit of my laborious afternoon, the chicken divan. Played cards (do I even need to include this now?) and went to sleep - or not, due to my brother's ridiculously loud sleeping habits.

Day 6 - Wednesday 31st July:

Happy 33rd birthday, Harry Potter! Visited another National Trust property, Lanhydrock, with the family. This one was absolutely huge with really impressive rooms and beautiful gardens. I appreciated it a lot more than Trerice. Popped over to Pinsla Gardens to look at the flowers and little statues and to have our second afternoon tea of the week. Pinsla has the single best carrot cake in the world, goes especially well with a pot of Earl Grey. Went out to a restaurant in the evening and had a squid and chorizo salad for starters, and grilled chicken and balsamic salad for the main. An evening well spent.

Day 7 - Thursday 1st August:

Visited an art gallery with my uncle because he's an artist and likes to take inspiration from other works. He likes all the art I hate, and hates everything I said was nice. Came back home and went to St. Agnes with my parents and brother. Knocked a man over on my body board, oops. Had a delicious BLT baguette for lunch and tried to make friends with a dog. It ran away. Had a dinner of everything left over from the past week, packed everything up, and - need I say it? - played cards. Spent my last night listening to Brother Green grinding his teeth in his sleep.

Day 8 - Friday 2nd August:

Got up at 6am for last minute packing. Watched the sunrise and hopped in the car at 7.01am to come back home. Stopped off for a McDonald's breakfast just outside Wiltshire and ordered a bacon, cheese and egg bagel meal with a diet Coke. Have I ever had a more fabulous breakfast? I don't think so. Arrived back home at 12.58pm which is a new record for the Cornwall-Sutton trip for the Green family. Unpacked and searched the house for food. There is none. Writing this post to distract myself from the hunger pangs.

Other important points of note: Baby Lips will only be available in store from Tuesday onward. I feel like a fool.
